FAQ Statement Provide answers to frequently asked questions.
What is CAM Software? Answer: CAM software is used to automate CNC machine programming off-line, on a PC in an office,
instead of programming at the machine using the control. CAM software will automatically create a "flavored" G-code program for any CNC machine in a much shorter timeframe.
What is the advantage of using CAD/CAM software? Answer: CAD/CAM software will save the company time and money. Typically, a programmer will
experience a minimum of 30% time-savings when switching from programming by hand (writing the G-code out or taking existing programs and modifying them) to a software program to do this for them. Today,
CAM software will also help the programmer visualize the part before its being machined, while the machine is still running parts. This will prevent tool crashes or scrapped material by preventing errors in
the program the manual programmer might have missed. CNC programming software will also help manage machining processes, so efficient tool path is being used to machine your parts. After all, as a
manufacturing company, your profits rely heavily on optimized NC-code being supplied to your machines in a timely fashion. Not using CAM software is costing you money every day.
What is the cost of a good CAM system? Answer: Typically, a good CAM system can be justified in 3-9 months. The Return On Investment (ROI) is
quick, since there are so many benefits to using this type of software package.
What do I need to use a CAM system? Answer: You should be concerned with whether you currently have a PC that can handle this type of
software, and whether your programmers are computer-friendly. If you can answer "yes" to both these questions, you are ready to see your business grow and become more efficient.
How much does training for my programmers cost? Answer: Training for your programmers will typically cost between several hundred dollars per person to a
thousand dollars. This cost is well worth the time-savings your company will receive in return, for the rest of their history with the company.
Is CAM software easy to learn? Answer: Again, this depends on the capability of the student, but typically, CAD/CAM software is easy to
learn and the student should be productive and making parts within a week.
Can I learn from a web site, magazine, or friend? Answer: Sure, you can learn from any avenue available to you. But...keep in mind a qualified instructor
will will be much better suited than a web site or magazine. A friend is a more valuable source, but your friend will probably rather be at home with his/her family, rather than teaching you in detail about your
new CAM system. Your friend will not have any experience as an instructor, as well.
Why should I get training at all? Answer: Well, if the last couple answers didn't answer this for you, maybe this will. First off, you will cut
your learning curve down considerably. I'm sure you would rather be doing, than learning, and an instructor will help get your there faster. Secondly, you'll save money. You'll save the time finding answers
to your own questions and your training will be optimized for your needs. Lastly, so you have a positive experience, and not get frustrated by trying to teach yourself.
So what's with all the different CAM Systems? Answer: There are many products to choose from. We have evaluated these choices to come up with the Esprit CAD/CAM System by DP Technology Corp. in California.
What were the main reasons for choosing Esprit? Answer: The Esprit CAM System was the first CAD/CAM software to be rewritten as a 100% native
Windows software program. Because of this, it is up-to-date and has a very intuitive and user-friendly interface. This makes Esprit easy to learn and use. Esprit is also suprisingly powerful. Esprit is capable of
5-axis simultaneous machining, Swiss-style lathe programming, multi-axis mill/turn (including B-axis), and is the best CAM program for EDM machining. Because of these general reasons, and many more, Esprit
stands head and shoulders above the rest of the products.
What about these "entry level" CAM software? Answer: Don't be fooled by price. Your business is very important to you and since it relies heavily on
optimized NC code at the machines, a cheap CAM system could end up hurting your bottom line. Your objective is to be more efficient than your competitor. Having the best tools will make you more
competitive, not a 'catch-up' company.
I am convinced! How do I get started??? Answer: Contact us for more information or a demonstration of what ESPRIT can do for you immediately.
With such a great ROI, it makes no sense to wait to implement Esprit at your shop to make your company more profitable!
