Dialup
Instructions thru IE 4
Internet Explorer is an Internet browser that should come with every
Windows operating system. The older versions, such as Windows 95 or
98 came with version 4 of Internet Explorer.
This browser comes with a convenient tookit called "Internet
Connection Wizard". It is often simpler to configure Dialup
Networking using this tool.
- Open up Internet Explorer.
If the Internet Connection Wizard dialog appears, skip step 2.
- Now that you have Internet
Explorer open, click on "Tools" and
select "Internet Options".
- The properties dialog
is now open. Choose the "Connection" tab.
Click on the "Connect.." button. This should bring up
the Internet Connection Wizard.
- When the connection
wizard dialog comes up, choose the option which reads: "I have
an existing Internet account through my phone line or Local Area
Network (LAN)...". Click "Next".
- In this screen, choose "Select
this service if you are accessing using an online service..." Click "Next".
- The next screen will
ask you for the access number, The access numbers can be found on
the Availability page.. Once you've entered
the number accessible from your area, click "Next".

should dial "0" and check with the telephone company
operator.
- This screen asks for
your username and password. By this time, you have probably already
obtained an account with
us. This information is given to
you at setup time. Enter your username and password, then hit "Next".
- This screen asks if
you would like to modify Advanced Settings. Select "No" and
hit "Next".
- The connection name
is arbitrary and can be anything that will help you in identifying
this dialup connection. For convenience purposes,
enter: "Connection to Eriecoast". Click "Next" to
continue.
- Select "Yes" to
setting up your Internet mail account. Click "Next".
- Enter your Display
name. Click "Next"
- Enter your email address
which is your user ID@eriecoast.com. Click "Next"
- Select My incoming
mail server is a "POP3" server
- Type Under "Incoming
mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: mail.eriecoast.com
Type Under "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" Type: mail.eriecoast.com
Click Next
- Next
to POP account name enter your user ID
- Next to Password
enter your password
- Click Next
- This step is repeating
the actions of the previous step. This time, for Internet news account.
Click "Next".
- Again, select "No" for
Directory Service setup and hit "Next".
- If you've gotten this
