  Dialup Instructions thru IE5/5.5/6

Internet Explorer is an Internet browser that should come with every Windows operating system. The newer versions, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 came with version 5 or 5.5 of Internet Explorer.

This browser is supplied with a convenient tookit called "Internet Connection Wizard. It is often simpler to configure Dialup Networking using this tool.

  1. Open up Internet Explorer. If the Internet Connection Wizard dialog appears, skip step 2.
  2. Now that you have Internet Explorer open, click on "Tools" and select "Internet Options".
  3. The properties dialog is now open. Choose the "Connections" tab. Click on the "Setup.." button. This should bring up the Internet Connection Wizard.
  4. When the connection wizard dialog comes up, choose the option which reads: "I want to set up my connection manually...". Click "Next".
  5. In this screen, choose "I connect through a phone line and modem". Click "Next".
  6. The next screen will ask you for the access number, which are listed on the Availability page. Once you've entered the number accessible from your area, click "Next".

  7. This screen asks for your username and password. By this time, you have probably already obtained an account with us. This information is given to you at setup time. Enter your username and password, then hit "Next"
  8. The connection name is arbitrary and can be anything that will help you in identifying this dialup connection. For convenience purposes, enter: "Connection to Eriecoast". Click "Next" to continue.
  9. Select "Yes" to setting up your Internet mail account. Click "Next".
  10. Enter your Display name. Click "Next"
  11. Enter your email address which is your user ID@eriecoast.com. Click "Next"
  12. Select My incoming mail server is a "POP3" server
  13. Type Under "Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: mail.eriecoast.com
    Type Under "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" Type: mail.eriecoast.com
    Click Next
  14. Next to POP account name enter your user ID
  15. Next to Password enter your password
  16. Click Next
